The smoke was thick in the air over the water, making the not-so-distant hills fade and glow peachy-warm.
Ennis counted down from three and gave my paddle board a push– absolutely fine the first time, because I was on my knees– but a complete and total surprise when he did it later while I was standing. That little dude knocked me in!! And then he did it again later when we were both hanging out, hanging onto the board, when I could have theoretically known better.
But I think Better is the room for each of us to show up as we want. To splash him with the paddle and flee the scene. To make a slow evening of it and eat leftover cheesy pasta in the car.
To find that this new life is full of surprises, at every hour of the day and night.
